A wavelength of 980nm of the diode laser system has the highest percentage of absorption in water and since the prostate contains a high percentage of water as well as hemoglobin the haemostatic results are excellent. Studies of various wavelengths have shown that the 980nm wavelength is the best for haemostatic results and is far superior to those being used by the holmium and KTP lasers. Since the 980nm Diode Laser is vaporizing the prostate there is no bleeding and hospital stay is reduced to one or two days. There is no collateral damage or charring of the tissues. Combined with special side firing and end firing fibers the laser is the undoubted choice of the urologist today.
